Get your '90s on.
Brisbane indie trio The Goon Sax have shared another dreamy alt-pop tune for fans to sink their teeth into before their new album, Mirror II, is released tomorrow. The album is the first to be released since the group signed to Matador Records late last year, with their music still available through Chapter Music in Australia and New Zealand.
Desire is a shimmering, synth filled '90s pop tune headed up by band member Riley Jones, who shares lead vocal duties with her fellow bandmates Louis Forster and James Harrison. Jones says of the tune, "When I wrote Desire, I lived with James and Louis in a share house in Paddington, Brisbane called Fantasy Planet. In my basic understanding of the way Lacan theorised fantasy, desire is founded upon a lack. The cause of our desire is a gap that we are always trying to fill, even while it constantly evades us.”
The video for Desire is a pink and purple throwback to the likes of Aqua and Nikki Webster - complete with fuzzy pens, glitter stickers, and bad CGI. Check it out here:
Mirror II is available for preorder now and is slated for release tomorrow, July 09. Keep an eye out at theGuide for any upcoming Goon Sax gigs.
