The Goon Sax are calling it a day, but not before fans get a chance to say goodbye.
Beloved Brisbane trio The Goon Sax, who over the past nine years have gone from strength to strength both at home and aboard have announced that they’ll be calling it quits; insisting that Australia will still get a chance to see them live one last time before officially parting ways.
In a statement made by band members Riley, Louis and Jim, online late last night, The Goon Sax stated:
“To all friends of the Goon Sax we have some bittersweet news…after nine years of giving it our everything, we’ve decided to draw the curtain on this band. It’s taken us places stranger, more beautiful, and far beyond anything we could have imagined, and brought us to meeting and working with so many special and incredibly inspiring people. Our gratitude to everyone who’s been with us and allowed the madness of the last 9 years to happen is far beyond anything we can possibly express.
Although this means we won’t be doing our US tour anymore, including the Interpol and Spoon tour and the Pavement shows, we promise we will play one or two more shows in Australia before we finally say goodnight. For us this feels like a happy ending. We love each other and we love you! Thank you for everything.”
In a statement, Matador - who look after The Goon Sax - added: “Though we're sad and disappointed by this news, we respect the band’s decision. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with Louis, Riley and James and look forward to whatever they do next, individually or collectively.
The decision comes after recent announcements for the band, who were set to tour with American bands Spoon, Interpol and Pavement.
The Goon Sax just wrapped up their tour with Snail Mail, which included shows in North America, the UK and Europe.
