Ghost Upgrade All Venues On Upcoming Australian Tour

Swedish metal icons Ghost have built up immeasurable hype for their upcoming Australian tour, upgrading all shows to arena venues.

The Sydney show has been upgraded to Qudos Bank Arena on Tuesday, 3 October, while the Melbourne concert will now be at John Cain Arena on Wednesday, 4 October, and the Brisbane gig will be held at Brisbane Entertainment Centre on Saturday, 7 October. Existing ticketholders hold valid tickets to the upgraded concerts.

In addition to the venue upgrade news, the band has revealed that they are bringing their total international production to Australia, promising an utterly authentic Ghost experience for their devoted fans.

The band’s cover of Genesis’s 1992 track, Jesus He Knows Me, was the first single from their Phantomime covers EP, released last month. The subject matter of that track – a satirical look at televangelism – inspired much of Kill Your Stereo’s recent chat with vocalist Tobias Forge.

“It’s frighteningly horrible. It's easy not to laugh about the accuracy in which Phil Collins wrote a lyric that ten years ago felt almost dated, even outdated, which now feels so contemporary and important,” Forge said about the band’s motivation in covering Jesus He Knows Me.

The last time that Ghost were in Australia was for the short-lived Download Festival in 2019. They didn’t headline, but the curiosity of Ghost certainly drew crowds to their tent while headliners Slayer were performing. This October, the Swedes will return to Australia for their first-ever headline run in the country.

The headline tour will be very different to what fans remember from Ghost’s Download appearances, “The biggest difference between this time and the previous times that we've been there is that we're bringing a full production,” Forge said.

“Last time, we played a festival – I don't remember the exact length of the show, but we probably shaved off a lot of material that we would have been able to play,” he told Kill Your Stereo. 

“I don't want to, in hindsight, posthumously kill any memories of what people have seen when we have been there before, but we haven't really done a proper show in Australia. That's the thing; we've never really done that. I think that what you're finally getting is a real Ghost show.” You can read our full interview here.
