"About 3.50pm (Thursday 13 October 2016) a bus was travelling east on Park Street, between George and Pitt Street.
At the time, the final passengers of the bus had already exited the vehicle and the driver of the bus was the only occupant.
Early investigations suggest the bus was stationary, before continuing forward and hitting the rear of a van that was stationary and in the process of being unloaded by three men.
As a result of the crash two men, aged 35 and 42, who were standing at the rear of the van suffered serious leg injuries.
One of the men was airlifted to St Vincent’s Hospital; the other was taken by road.
The third man, 29, escaped serious injury and was treated at the scene for cuts and bruises. The driver of the van, a 33-year-old woman was uninjured.
The bus driver was uninjured and taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
Investigations into the circumstances leading up to the crash continue by officers from Sydney City Local Area Command."
Meanwhile, former My Chemical Romance frontman and bandmate of Iero, Gerard Way, has said that he is "heartbroken" after hearing news of the accident.
In a statement posted to his Facebook early Friday morning Way said, "I awoke to some very upsetting, sad and serious news. Heartbroken.
"I know just as much as all of you but I hope the continued outpouring of love, well wishes and support help."
