"It was like knowing I’ve got the funniest joke in the world and 100,000 people are about to lose their minds."
Skrillex, Four Tet and Fred Again.. at Coachella (YouTube)
EDM legend Four Tet has opened up about his penchant for chaotically dropping dubstep track COUNTRY RIDDIM randomly throughout his sets - and, most notably, the track’s four-time appearance in Skrillex, Fred Again.. and Four Tet’s Coachella set earlier this year.
ICYMI: Skrillex, Fred Again.. and Four Tet made history at this year’s Coachella main stage (which was actually Frank Ocean's abandoned ice skating rink) for an epic closing performance that was met with praise around the world.
While the set had featured a slew of mind-blowing moments, it was Four Tet (real name Kieran Hebden) dropping HOL!'s filthy, bass-heavy track COUNTRY RIDDIM several times throughout the b2b set that had fans talking - and of course, it quickly became a meme across social media.

Now, in a recent interview with The Guardian, the music producer has opened up about the viral moment that had music lovers both at the festival and watching online from home headbanging to the wild drop.
In the chat, Hebden, who recently performed a b2b set with Skrillex at HARD Summer 2023, explained that dropping the now-iconic track came after Sonny dropped The Lion King theme song in one of their b2b sets.
"Since then, we look at each other like: 'Nothing you could play would be too chaotic to mix out of. Try me,'" he explained.
COUNTRY RIDDIM was dropped a ridiculous four times throughout the duo’s Coachella set, initially mixed with Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit, and later interspersed with Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus — and punters were loving it.
"I actually had an out-of-body experience," Hebden recalled. "Absolutely lost my marbles. It was like knowing I’ve got the funniest joke in the world and 100,000 people are about to lose their minds. It’s one of the most powerful feelings I’ve experienced in my whole life."
Despite his resurgence, he remains humble, adding, "I did Coachella and the next gig was a three-and-a-half-hour set at my daughter’s 13th birthday party to 20 teenage girls, who I felt looked at me deeply unimpressed the whole time."
Lucky for those of us Down Under, both Four Tet and Skrillex are set to bring the fire to this year’s Listen Out festival alongside the likes of Lil Uzi Vert, Ice Spice, Marc Rebillet, JPEG MAFIA, VV Pete, Mallrat and more.
