Flume Drops Surprise Album 'Arrived Anxious, Left Bored'

2023 is shaping up to be another spectacular year for Flume, from a Splendour In The Grass exclusive headlining set celebrating his tenth year as an artist, to now dropping a surprise album, Arrived Anxious, Left Bored.

Arrived Anxious, Left Bored is the second part in Flume’s excavation of previously unreleased music from the past ten years. The album is reflective in nature, pulling from moments since the release of his debut album in 2012.

Highlighting underground house and atmospheric ambient tracks, Arrived Anxious, Left Bored features collaborations with celebrated producers Emile Haynie (Dua Lipa, Lana Del Rey, ASAP Rocky) and Jim-E Stack (Bon Iver, HAIM, Sudan Archives), as well as Flume’s first foray into using his own vocals on All There 1.9 [2019 Export Wav].

“This and the first Things Don’t… drop are a bunch of songs that I always loved that didn’t fit on a previous record,” Flume said in a statement. “It’s cathartic, it feels really nice to clean the slate and make way for what’s next.”

Arrived Anxious, Left Bored follows February’s Things Don’t Always Go The Way You Plan, another album of unreleased tunes from the Aussie DJ, including tracks featuring Injury Reserve, Panda Bear and Isabella Manfredi.

Also in February, Flume added his remix of Lorde’s Tennis Court to streaming services after nine long years.

Since its release, the track had previously only existed on YouTube and SoundCloud and has since become a cult classic in Flume’s expansive discography.

On Instagram, Flume described the process of releasing old music: "It’s been ten years since my first record came out, since then I’ve wrote a lot a lot music and not all of it has seen the light of day. After seeing the reaction to Slugger 1.4 and how much love it got, I figured it would be fun to release more of these forgotten ideas I from my old laptops. The whole process has been quite cathartic."

Flume's Slugger 1.4, which was originally recorded in 2014, was released last year as a loose single and ended up landing at number 50 on the Hottest 100. Earlier this year, Flume took out the Hottest 100 for his single with MAY-A titled Say Nothing. The track was the lead single to his critically acclaimed and fan adored album Palaces, which also landed last year.
