5 More Acts We'd Love To See Cover Taylor Swift

With Ryan Adams' folkloric cover album of Taylor Swift's 1989 finally out this week (who thought he'd ever cover Taylor Swift, let alone release it?) and badass bluesman Father John Misty following suit with his own Velvet Underground-inspired covers of Blank Space and Welcome To New York, we had a bit of a daydream about other acts we'd love to see cover the pop princess's now-iconic fifth album.

Pitbull

So… we know Mr Worldwide isn't the greatest lyricist… and we know he's not a stranger to "reappropriating" music from other artists in his own songs (Exhibit A: Back In Time, featuring the chorus from Dirty Dancing's Love Is Strange, Exhibit B: Bon, Bon, featuring the We No Speak Americano hook from Italian singer Renato Carosone, and later Yolanda Be Cool, Exhibit C, D and E on YouTube probably) so we were wondering what a Pitbull song with a cheeky Taylor Swift chorus would be like. Let's be honest — it's probably not that far off.

Slipknot

Some champion dubbed a live performance of Slipknot with Ricky Martin's Livin' La Vida Loca and we thought, hey now, this is kinda cool. Another dubbed Wait And Bleed as a Radio Disney song. Well, this is us hoping for these absolute legends to again dub Slipknot, this time with the fairytale stylings of Taylor Swift's Wildest Dreams. Or Corey Taylor and co. could take off their masks, smack on some lipstick and do it themselves. You know, their choice. 

William Shatner

All old mate William Shatner wanted was to be part of Tay's gang in the Bad Blood video, and Taylor couldn't even grant him that. But in our line of thinking, maybe if Shatner had taken on Shake It Off or Out Of The Woods in his token spoken-word style, maybe she would've caved and extended him an invite.

A widely publicised rumour is that Katy Perry and Taylor Swift aren't on the best terms (Swift recently told Rolling Stone that, "For years, I was never sure if we were friends or not … She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think, 'Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?"). They weren't always butting heads though — way back in 2010, the two even sang Hot 'N Cold together on stage. We thought the best way to clear the air and bring their friendship back to its former glory would be if Perry covered Bad Blood as a gesture of goodwill. Or it could go down really badly…

Closer to home, we'd love to see a band like Holy Holy give something off 1989 the delicate Tim-and-Oscar treatment, a la Sentimental And Monday. If their cover of Love Will Tear Us Apart earlier this year on triple j's Like A Version is anything to go by, they'll be killer at arranging a cover. And if anything, it'll put them on Swift's radar.
