The Cat Empire frontman steps out on his own for five shows around the country this September
Felix Riebl, the veteran Australian musician and frontman of The Cat Empire, may have just spent the past several months enjoying a solid resurgence with his long-time band and their new album, Rising With The Sun, but he's not content to just sit back and reap the benefits from that record alone.
In fact, he's announced the September release of his second studio full-length, Paper Doors, with a national tour in support to follow. The album was recorded last year at Sing Sing Studios, in Richmond, with assistance from Andy Baldwin, with whom Riebl worked on The Cat Empire's debut LP (and who has worked with Bjork and Neneh Cherry, among others), Roscoe James Irwin (Washington, The Bamboos, Paul Kelly), Ben Edgar, Daniel Farrugia (Gotye, Angus & Julia Stone), Ryan Monro and Ollie McGill (The Cat Empire).
Hot on the heels of recent singles Shadows and In Your Arms (ft. Martha Wainwright, one of three duettists with whom he performs on the record), Riebl will usher into the world 10 tracks penned in-between stints on tour. "The windows, the planes, the buses, the back stages, even the rush of the performance — all of that makes no sense while you're on the road," Riebl said in a statement. "But when you come back, music comes out of the quiet places I write; this album is looking at different angles of what movement and travel actually can be."
Felix Riebl wiill release Paper Doors on Friday 2 September, and is available for pre-order now.
