Fatboy Slim’s waterfront café, the Big Beach Café, is about to undertake serious measures to improve its business practices after receiving a one-star hygiene rating last month.
The café, situated in Hove Lagoon, a public area between the Brighton and Hove seafront in the UK, received a low rating after mice (and their droppings) were found in the building.
According to UK publication The Sun, food was kept at 15C when it should have been below 8C, lettuce wasn’t washed before use, chopping boards were worn, and one of the chefs wasn’t wearing an apron.
It’s also been reported that there was a problem with the roof.
The report said: “This presents an imminent risk to food safety. You are required to have adequate procedures to prevent pests.”
The council said staff would return to check that issues were fixed.

Peter Webb, one of the managers at the DJ’s café, assured that staff are taking the rating seriously and taking steps to improve.
One step involves closing for one day next month to allow experts to ensure that the improvements made are long-term.
“It’s a shock that it happened, but we have tackled it,” Webb told the UK publication, The Argus. “We discovered the problem was in the roof, but all the procedures have now dramatically improved.
“We have taken this really seriously. We’re in a much better place now.”
Webb told The Argus that the café hired a specialist to put final fixes on the issues with mice.
Fatboy Slim bought the Big Beach Café from former model and animal rights activist Heather Mills—also the ex-wife of Paul McCartney—in 2013. Mills had been running a vegan café called V Bites for four years.
It’s been reported that when he’s in the area, Fatboy Slim also helps out in the kitchen.
Fatboy Slim will return to Australia in March 2025, promising to bring fans the “biggest” rave they’ve ever seen.
The Eat, Sleep, Rave, Repeat DJ said of his upcoming tour, “Like the crazy drunk uncle who turns up every Xmas, I’m coming back to my Aussie fam once again. Expect the usual inappropriate behaviour and interpretational dancing…”
For the tour, Fatboy Slim will be accompanied by special guests DJ Seinfeld (SWE), Australia’s own CC:DISCO!, and Jennifer Loveless.
