The global Blue Screen Of Death incident meant Perth fans were short one sick sludge metal gig.

New Orleans sludge metal band EYEHATEGOD were forced to miss the first date of their Australian tour in Perth (Boorloo) this week, as a result of compounded issues from last week’s major global IT outage.
In case you missed it, millions of devices running Microsoft Windows – including those used to run operative systems in shops, airports, restaurants and other public-facing businesses – crashed last Friday afternoon (July 19), leading to countless cases of operations grinding to a halt. As the BBC reports, the incident was caused by errors in an update to Microsoft’s internal antivirus software.
Issues caused by the outage continued to ripple on across the weekend, and in a statement posted yesterday morning (July 23), Soundworks Touring confirmed that EYEHATEGOD’s flight into Australia was affected. “Due to compounding airline issues with the recent worldwide IT tech outage,” they wrote, “EYEHATEGOD will not arrive into Perth tonight in time for the show.”
The gig was scheduled to go down at the Amplifier Bar – and still did, with support act Goatwhore stepping in as a makeshift headliner (with local bands The Furor and Flesh Prison serving as the openers). Nevertheless, Soundworks offered full refunds for anyone who had their hearts set on seeing EYEHATEGOD.
The promotors also confirmed that EYEHATEGOD will indeed still make it over to Australia – the tour will continue tomorrow (July 25) with a show at the Lion Arts Factory in Adelaide (Kaurna). They’ll round the weekend out with a show at Max Watt’s in Melbourne (Naarm) on Saturday July 26 and the Crowbar in Sydney (Eora) on Sunday July 27, before wrapping the tour up at The Triffid in Brisbane on Monday July 28.
Tickets to the remaining four shows are still available – find them here.
