Even Cardi B Thinks Supermarket Prices Suck

We are not alone in struggling with the costs of inflation; even celebrities aren't immune.

The cost of living has caught the ire of Cardi B, who's taken to social media to start a conversation among her 28 million Twitter followers. The US rapper recently tweeted, "Naaaaaa grocery shopping prices are ridiculous right now... You might as well eat outside!!" She added in another post, "Bitch why lettuce cost 6 dollars where I live at?"

Some fans then questioned why a rich celebrity would care about the price of groceries, to which Cardi B responded with a minute-long explainer on budgeting. "Lettuce was like $2 a couple of months ago, now it’s like fucking [$]7. Of course, I’ma say something," she explained. "Cause if I think that shit is crazy, I can only imagine what middle class people or people in the hood is motherfucking thinking. So, yes, I’m going to say something. The fuck! And I have a big platform, so I do want anybody that’s responsible [for] these fucking prices to put that shit the fuck down."

In December 2022, the Australian Bureau of Statistics noted that while inflation has slowed, it "remains high".

The biggest strikes to the Consumer Price Index in October 2022 were new homes, going up 20.4%, petrol prices (up 11.8%) and fresh produce prices (up 9.4%). 

Cardi B pleaded guilty to third-degree assault and reckless endangerment in a New York City court in September last year. 

Her admission to the relatively minor level charges is widely believed to be part of a plea bargain deal designed to keep the superstar out of prison. 

New York Times reporter Joe Coscarelli, who was present at the hearing, revealed that Cardi B has been sentenced and will receive a conditional discharge after fifteen days. 

The plea bargain also reportedly requires Cardi B to stay away from the two victims for three years. 

The charges stemmed from fights at a strip club in Queens, New York, in August 2018. Two of the club's bartenders accused Cardi B of ordering members of her friendship group to attack them with various objects, including bottles and chairs.

 After the court hearing, Cardi B shared her reflections on the ordeal via TMZ. 

"Part of growing up and maturing is being accountable for your actions. As a mother, it's a practice that I am trying to instil in my children, but the example starts with me. I've made some bad decisions in my past that I am not afraid to face and own up to. These moments don't define me and they are not reflective of who I am now. I'm looking forward to moving past this situation with my family and friends and getting back to the things I love the most -- music and my fans."
