27 Club – an epic live tribute to some of the most iconic artists of our time (Janis Joplin, Amy Winehouse, Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix) – will make its NSW debut at this year’s Sydney Fringe festival.
The show recently earned a swathe of critical acclaim at the Adelaide Fringe, with reviews calling it “65 minutes of raw energy” (Glam Adelaide) and “a masterclass in rock 'n' roll” (InReview). Taking to the stage for it are some of Australia’s own modern-day rock icons: Sarah McLeod (best known for her work in The Superjesus), Kevin Mitchell (Jebediah), Carla Lippis (Mondo Psycho), Dusty Lee Stephensen (Wanderers), Justin Burford (End Of Fashion), Virginia Lillye (The Voice) and Bek Jensen.
In a press release, McLeod said of what to expect: “Every song in this show is a banger. We have so much fun performing this show, the cast knows how to put on a high-octane performance and the crowd is right there with us, singing, crying, laughing, dancing... the show delivers on all fronts.”
Adding to the sentiment was Zac Tyler, the creative producer behind 27 Club, who said: “27 Club is a heartfelt tribute to the icons who have left an indelible mark on music history. We’re not just putting on a gig, we're creating a full show experience that celebrates the raw power and timeless influence of these music legends.”
27 Club’s Sydney run will kick off on Friday August 30 at the Sydney Spiegeltent, with shows running regularly until Sunday September 29 – head here for more info on all the dates, and to grab tickets.
