Emily Wurramara Links Up With Tasman Keith For 'Lordy Lordy', Announces New Album 'NARA'

Emily Wurramara has shared her third new song for 2024 – a striking collaboration with Tasman Keith titled Lordy Lordy – alongside all the details for her upcoming second studio album, NARA.

In a press release, the Warnindhilyagwa singer-songwriter said her single is about “the hard work that you have to do when things go to shit”, explaining: “We’re the next generation, so how can we honour those who’ve come before us, but also open up new pathways for those who are going to come after us? That's what its all about – community. The future.”

Lordy Lordy arrives alongside an equally bold and impactful music video, directed by ARIA-winning filmmaker Claudia Sangiorgi Dalimore (who also helmed the clip for Wurramara’s earlier single Magic Woman Dancing), shot on location across Larrakia Country. In addition to Wurramara and Keith themselves, the video features appearances from the Red Flag Dancers group, as well as members of Wurramara’s local community, furthering the song’s themes and message.

She said of the video’s background: “It has always been a dream of mine to film something with the Red Flag Dancers in NT – it just makes sense, it’s the place I was born, my family live there, I recorded the album there – it all feels like a full circle thing.

“My favourite thing about this film clip was seeing all the dancers coming on set: my mum, Red Flag, Uncle Jayden Drahm and my cousins. I just didn’t realise how much it would impact me seeing these different entities and spirits from all across this country, and they each gave 10,000 percent.”

Named for the Anindilyakwa word meaning “nothing”, NARA – the follow-up to Wurramara’s breakthrough debut album, 2018’s Milyakburra – will be released on August 23 via ABC Music. Lordy Lordy is our third preview of the record, following the release of Magic Woman Dancing back in February, and Midnight Blues in April.

In addition to Keith’s appearance on Lordy Lordy, NARA features guest spots from Zeppelin Hamilton (appearing on the song WWGBH), Arringarri (on STFAFM) and Lisa Mitchell (on See Me There).

According to the aforementioned press release, NARA will chronicle the “intense highs and lows” Wurramara has experienced over the past six years, “from winning accolades and taking her music across the world, losing her house in a fire, giving birth to her daughter and struggling with her mental health – to her ultimate arrival at peace in the knowledge that, ‘It was when I had nothing, I realised I had everything.’”
