"It means the world to me."
Ecca Vandal is the latest artist to be awarded the Levi’s Music Prize.
The Melbourne singer-songwriter and rapper has received a prize of $30,000, including $25,000 in cash (which will likely contribute to her second album) and $5,000 to assist with touring from Stage & Screen.
“A massive thank you to Levi’s for this award, it means the world to me,” Ecca Vandal said.
“The extra cash is going to be a huge help for the next stage, as I head off on tour and make an album, so I really appreciate the support. Big love!”
Artists who have previously showcased at BIGSOUND are eligible for the award, and since appearing at the 2016 event, Ecca Vandal has released her debut album via Dew Process in Australia/NZ and Island Records in the UK and toured the world, appearing at massive festivals such as Afropunk, Reading and Leeds.
Previous Levi’s Music Prize recipients include Amyl & The Sniffers, Emerson Snowe, Stella Donnelly, Alex Lahey, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever and Hatchie.
