Australia’s own DMA’S have just released their fourth album, How Many Dreams?, which has landed at #2 on the ARIA Albums Chart and #3 in the UK.
Their first UK top-3 charting album and highest-ever chart at home has led to their second top-5 album in the UK (following The Glow’s #4 debut), which means that the Sydney band have achieved a feat only a handful of Australian artists have – they currently sit amongst the likes of Kylie Minogue, AC/DC and Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds.
Johann Ponniah, the founder of the label that houses DMA’S - I OH YOU, part of Mushroom Group, said about the group’s success, "My hope for I OH YOU has always been for it be a platform to take great Australian music to the world. To have DMA’S crack the top 3 in the UK, while remaining an independent Australian band on our label is quite an overwhelming feeling to be honest.”
Ponniah continued, “I’ve spent the last two weeks in a van with the band as we travel around the UK to play intimate shows for fans all over… it’s been late nights and very early mornings, not particularly glamourous but it has proven to be a great reminder of the passion and love for the band over here.
"Of course charts aren’t the reason we do it, but in this case I can’t help but feel like this result is a reflection of 10 years of hard work and a collection of fans who have become friends… and if that’s not worth celebrating, then I’m not sure what is."
How Many Dreams? is filled with the band’s signature soaring highs that could make any listener feel invincible, with enough vulnerability and heart-on-your-sleeve moments to appease the die-hard early fans.
Their first album in almost three years, How Many Dreams? is an ambitious, carefully crafted landmark record. Read The Music’s cover story with the band here.
