New wave outfit Depeche Mode are known for their spectacular live shows, and this October, fans will get to relive or experience the group’s performance abilities for the first time on the big screen.
From Tuesday, 28 October, limited screenings of Depeche Mode’s forthcoming concert film, M, will land in cinemas and IMAX theatres.
It’s set to be a worldwide release, so we wouldn’t rule Australia out of the official scheduling. According to NME, the film will air in more than 2,500 cinemas across over 60 countries.
Created by the band’s Dave Gahan and Martin Gore, Mexican filmmaker Fernando Frías, Trafalgar Releasing, and Sony Music Vision, the concert film had its premiere at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival and contains footage captured from Depeche Mode’s 2023 Memento Mori tour, which saw over 200,000 fans attend their three sold-out shows in Mexico City.
In addition to concert footage, Depeche Mode: M will explore “Mexican culture’s relationship with death,” anchored by the band’s performances.

DEPECHE MODE: M is a cinematic journey into the heart of Mexican culture's relationship with death, framed by the iconic performances of Depeche Mode during their 2023 Memento Mori tour.
Conceived and directed by award-winning Mexican filmmaker Fernando Frías, the film captures the band's three sold-out shows in Mexico City, attended by over 200,000 fans, blending concert footage with interpretive interstitials and archival material.
DEPECHE MODE: M celebrates the band's global influence while delving into the profound connection between music, mortality, and Mexican tradition — a sacred meeting point where pain, memory, joy, and dance dissolve into one another, blurring into something profoundly and beautifully human.

Rumours about the band’s long-awaited return to Australia circled in early 2023, but unfortunately, didn’t happen.
In March 2023, Gahan let slip that Depeche Mode would be heading our way in support of Memento Mori in an interview with the Italian blog Pierluigi Piccini.
Speaking about the band’s plans, Gahan revealed they had “a series of as-yet-unannounced dates in Asia and Australia, through spring 2024,” which would have marked their first dates in Australia in 30 years.
A petition was launched in 2022 when Depeche Mode’s World Tour was announced and excluded Australia. The British band’s last tour of Australia was in 1994 in support of Songs Of Faith And Devotion.
