Deadmau5 Apologises For 'Being A D*ck' To Fans At Airport

Joel Thomas Zimmerman – better known by his stage name Deadmau5 – took to Instagram this morning to apologise to the fans he “shrugged off” at an airport.

“To the fans I literally shrugged off today at the airport:

“You know who you are, I know who you are and I sincerely apologize for being a fucking dick, I've been crazy stressed out all morning, and travelling is the WORST,” the Canadian electronic music producer and DJ wrote on Instagram.

Zimmerman continued, “Which doesn't excuse how I pretty much blew you off for a photo and conversation ... I'm not a terrible human being, i just was having a shitty fucking morning :/

“I feel horrible and i'm sorry. I'll do better.”

In the Instagram comments, Zimmerman elaborated on his bad morning, explaining, “Basically my entire [DJ software] rekordbox library got corrupted so, for those who know my pain, 900+ tracks with hot cues, you'd be a ticking time bomb too”.

Deadmau5’s Instagram post has been met with nearly 2,000 comments, with many commenters praising the musician’s character for coming forward and apologising.

Others joked (“This post is so Canadian”, “I was just trying to tell you that your bag was open.”), while others commented on the expectations placed on famous people and the parasocial relationships some fans have developed, believing that they’re entitled to any moment of someone’s time: “Honestly being a celebrity must be exhausting. You can never have a bad day or go out in public without being bothered”.

In March, Deadmau5 released the album Kx5 with collaborator Kaskade, which peaked at #6 on the Billboard Top Dance/Electronic Albums Chart. In December 2022, the collaboration surfaced with a gig at the Los Angeles Coliseum, performing to over 46,000 people, making it the “biggest ticketed global dance event for 2022”.

Deadmau5 last toured Australia in November 2017, bringing his iconic cube stage to Creamfields Festival at Melbourne’s Flemington Racecourse. The cube is known for transforming into a rotating Rubik’s cube and providing a flashy and ever-evolving backdrop.
