Dallas Green On Alexisonfire Break: 'I Didn't Feel Like I Had Anything To Offer Heavy Music'

Alexisonfire made all of their fans' dreams come true earlier this year when they released their first new music in almost ten years and according to guitarist Dallas Green it took some time for him to find the inspiration to write heavy music again. 

Appearing on this week's episode of The Green Room with Neil Griffiths, Green said, "When I write, it's just sorta whatever the mood is that strikes me."

"There was a long stretch of years where I just didn't feel like I had anything to offer heavy music," the Ontario songwriter told host Neil Griffiths. 

"I don't mean that in a bad way, I just mean I didn't have the inspiration. I just didn't have, really, the riffs to be honest. With Alexis, I always joked around with people or said, 'If that ever strikes me again, I know four guys I can do that pretty well with.'"

The Canadian outfit have since released two tracks this year; Familiar Drugs and Complicit.

"With a song like Familiar Drugs, which has been a riff I've had for over a decade, we never really found a place for it," Green said,

"Finally when we started jamming again I was like, 'Well, let's try this one out'... [vocalist George Pettit] was in a good space to write a song lyrically about something that just sorta worked with the riff.

"As cliche as it sounds, that's the magic part about music. Some people approach it like math and have their formula for what they think a hit song is gonna be, but for me and the guys, it has never been about that. It's just always been about, 'What am I feeling at that moment?'"
