Chet Faker Announces His First Australian Headline Dates Since 2015

As well as festival appearances at Wollongong’s Yours & Owls and Adelaide’s Harvest Rock, the latter of which was announced yesterday, Chet Faker has added three east coast tour dates – his first Australian headline dates under the returned moniker since 2015.

This October, the ARIA-winning musical chameleon will perform headline shows at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on Tuesday, 10 October, Melbourne’s Palais Theatre on Thursday, 12 October, and Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall on Saturday, 14 October.

The shows mark Faker’s return to Melbourne after a record-breaking five nights at the same venue in 2015 and a sold-out audience at the Sydney Opera House Forecourt.

Scheduled to be his only Australian headline dates of the year, Frontier Members can access pre-sale tickets on Monday, 7 August, at noon AEST, followed by general sale tickets being sold from Tuesday, 8 August, at 1 pm AEST via the Frontier Touring website.

Faker’s upcoming Australian headline dates are in support of his July 2021 album, Hotel Surrender, as well as the groovy new single, Something Like This, which you can check out below.

Faker described Hotel Surrender as “mass therapy” in a press release, explaining that his perspective on music had changed during the Covid-19 pandemic. “I think I used to see it [music] as this plight, like I was on a crusade or this creative odyssey. Now I see that it’s more Shamanistic. You’ve got to find some light — or sometimes dark, whatever’s right — and share it. 

“I realised that was the heart of the Chet Faker project. And I felt like the world was hurting, so I thought, ‘I can do a small something to give people some joy.’”

New music from Chet Faker followed the Aussie artist returning to the moniker after spending four years using his real name, Nick Murphy. The revert to the name also arrived with a significant record deal with BMG.

Under the Chet Faker moniker, Murphy won five ARIA Awards – Best Male Artist, Best Independent Release, Best Cover Artist, Engineer of the Year and Producer of the Year – for his 2014 debut album, Built On Glass. 

The album also saw Murphy top the 2014 triple j Hottest 100 with Talk Is Cheap, while also claiming #7 with Gold, #8 with 1998 and #21 with his cover of (Lover) You Don't Treat Me No Good from Like A Version.
