Cherie Currie Of The Runaways Is Heading To Australia

The perfect type of Friday news is one about infamous all-girl rock bands like The Runaways. In a first for Australia, the band's iconic rocker Cherie Currie is heading down under for her debut Australian tour, pretty much ensuring most of us will try to be front and centre so we can scream Cherry Bomb back to the singer.

Enjoying a string of hits in the '70s and rising to prominence supporting acts like Blondie, The Ramones and Van Halen, Currie was just a 15-year-old leading a movement of female punk rockers — as depicted in 2010 in film The Runaways, by Dakota Fanning. 

In her vast career Currie has worked as an actress in pieces like Twilight Zone: The Movie, Neon Angel and Edgeplay and is also a wood-carving artist using a chainsaw. 

Currie will rock three dates in NZ first, before heading to Brisbane's The Triffid, Sydney's Manning Bar, Melbourne's Corner Hotel, Adelaide's The Gov and Perth's The Gov in the latter half of May.
