"They can just go you-know-what themselves.”
Cher ( The Kelly Clarkson Show)
Legendary singer Cher has unleashed a scathing attack on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in a recent appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show.
Celebrating the release of her Christmas single DJ Play a Christmas Song, which has hit the top of Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales, host Kelly Clarkson noted that the music legend was the only solo artist to have No. 1 hits in seven decades.
The only other music act to achieve this feat is rock band the Rolling Stones.
“It took four of them to be one of me,” Cher joked, before adding, “And I’m not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.”
“Wait, are you serious?” Clarkson asked the singer.
“I’m not kidding you,” Cher said. “I was about to say shitting you! You know what, I wouldn’t be in it now if they gave me a million dollars … I’m never going to change my mind. They can just go you-know-what themselves.”

Cher added that she “changed music forever” with her 1998 hit Believe, which went on to be one of the best-selling singles of all time and brought autotuning to the mainstream.
November marked the hosting of the 2023 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony, with honorees including Kate Bush, Sheryl Crow, Missy Elliot, Willie Nelson, George Michael, Rage Against the Machine, and the Spinners. It follows the 2022 class of inductees that included Dolly Parton, Duran Duran, Pat Benatar, Eminem, Lionel Richie, Eurythmics, and Carly Simon.
Cher released her Christmas album in October, which featured a stacked list of collaborators including Michael Bublé, Tyga and Stevie Wonder.
“I never say this about my own records, but I’m really proud of this one. It is one of the most amazing highlights of my career,” Cher said about her first new album in five years.
On the partnership with Stevie Wonder, she added, “Every time I hear that harmonica, I’m a teenager again. It’s a personal dream come true for me to record this song with Stevie.”
