One of our favourite singers, Casey Donovan, has some big news: she’s gotten engaged to her longtime partner, Renee Sharples.
Donovan shared the news on social media yesterday (28 June). She posted a pair of photos of herself and Sharples and revealed that they got engaged last Friday (21 June).
“21.06.24 on the strawberry moon of the winter solstice the love of my life asked me if I wanted to do this life together forever,” Donovan wrote.
Recalling the life-changing moment, she continued: “The day I met you, home was no longer a place it became a person and yes, you are a gypsy but there's nobody else I would rather attach my wagon to on this beautiful road trip called life. And with that, I said yes!”
Donovan and Sharples first met back in 2020, when they matched on the dating app Bumble during the Covid-19 pandemic. Their first dates ended up being virtual – seeing each other and talking properly on Zoom – before meeting in person.
In a 2021 interview with Women’s Day (via news.com.au), Donovan said that one of the things that attracted her to Sharples was the pair’s shared sense of humour.

“It was so nice to know that our sense of humour was the same,” Donovan commented. “We couldn’t wipe the smiles off our faces.”
Earlier this year, she told The Daily Telegraph that she’s been in a “very happy, secure” place in her life.
She added, “It has taken me [time] to find the love of my life and to kiss a few frogs – and go through a very big part of my life that was challenging – to find confidence and happiness within myself.”
In April, Donovan landed her dream role: portraying Whoopi Goldberg’s Deloris Van Cartier in the Sister Act musical. The divine musical comedy lands in Sydney in August and Melbourne in November.
“I’m so incredibly excited to be joining Sister Act and to be playing the lead role of Deloris Van Cartier, played by the iconic Whoopi Goldberg in the much-loved films,” she said of the exciting role.
Donovan added, “Growing up, Sister Act was one of the movies that I watched on repeat. I love the film and am truly honoured to be part of such an uplifting, joyful, fun and feel-good production featuring the brilliant original music by multiple Tony Award-winning composer Alan Menken.”
