"Part of growing up and maturing is being accountable for your actions. As a mother, it's a practice that I am trying to instil in my children, but the example starts with me. I've made some bad decisions in my past that I am not afraid to face and own up to."

Cardi B pleaded guilty to third-degree assault and reckless endangerment in a New York City court today.

Her admission to the relatively minor level charges is widely believed to be part of a plea bargain deal designed to keep the superstar out of prison.

New York Times reporter Joe Coscarelli, who was present at the hearing, revealed that Cardi B has been sentenced and will receive a conditional discharge after fifteen days.

The plea bargain also reportedly requires Cardi B to stay away from the two victims for a period of three years.

The charges stemmed from fights at a strip club in Queens, New York in August 2018. Two of the club's bartenders accused Cardi B of ordering members of her friendship group to attack them with a variety of objects including bottles and chairs.

An investigation into the matter resulted in Cardi B being charged with two felony charges for attempting to assault with intent to cause serious physical injury. Cardi B entered a plea of not guilty to these charges. Cardi B also entered a plea of not guilty on several other misdemeanour charges and violations stemming from the attack, including further counts of reckless endangerment and harassment.

Speaking after the court hearing, Cardi B shared her reflections on the ordeal via TMZ.

"Part of growing up and maturing is being accountable for your actions. As a mother, it's a practice that I am trying to instil in my children, but the example starts with me. I've made some bad decisions in my past that I am not afraid to face and own up to. These moments don't define me and they are not reflective of who I am now. I'm looking forward to moving past this situation with my family and friends and getting back to the things I love the most -- music and my fans."
