Camp Cope Announce Their Final Show

Camp Cope broke emo and punk rock hearts across the country (and the globe) when they announced their break up in February. This announcement is worse, though: Georgia Maq (songwriter, vocals, piano, acoustic and electric guitar), Kelly-Dawn Hellmrich (lead bass guitar) and Sarah Thompson (drums and percussion) are playing their final show this October.

Heading to the Sydney Opera House on Friday, 13 October, Camp Cope are performing as part of the Sydney Opera House's 50th Birthday Festival – a month-long program marking the culmination of Sydney Opera House's year-long 50th anniversary season.

The Melbourne trio have a storied history with the Sydney Opera House: in 2017, they performed in the Drama Theatre for the first time, selling out two performances as part of Vivid LIVE off the back of their debut album Camp Cope. In 2018, they returned to film the video for The Opener in the Utzon Room, and later that year, the power-emo trio made their Concert Hall debut to bookend their critically acclaimed album How To Socialise And Make Friends.

Camp Cope played their last Melbourne show in March. Announcing the show a month beforehand, the trio posted the news on Instagram, writing, "this is a special one – our LAST EVER Naarm/Melbourne show at Brunswick Music Festival with the incredible Barkaa can’t think of a more fitting farewell".

Maq wrote on Twitter upon making the big break-up announcement, “I love Camp Cope and all we’ve done, we’ve done together. Thank you.”

Thompson added, “obv more to come, but for now, 4eva thanks to all the ppl who were there through the thick & thin. the music industry is a bin fire but that can be dealt with when you have the legends you all are keeping you sane. fire your manager, burn the joint down, morals over $. Love”.

Hellmrich concluded, “people asking if we're breaking up because i'm a mum now are really exposing themselves tbh”.

Last year, Camp Cope were nominated for the Australian Music Prize for their third album, Running With The Hurricane (King Stingray won the award). Upon reviewing the Camp Cope album, judge Britt Aylen (writer and broadcaster) said: “Running With the Hurricane is Camp Cope's most complex and accomplished record yet. It's somehow both raw and polished, with layered vocals and a fuller sound than their previous offerings. Lyrically, still as powerful as ever.”
