Busted & Hanson Rework 'MMMBop'

Hanson’s 1997 smash hit, MMMBop, has gone pop-punk in a new collaboration with English pop-punkers Busted.

MMMBop 2.0 arrives ahead of Busted’s upcoming UK tour in September and October, where they’ll be joined by special guests Hanson. Will this new collaboration happen on stage, too?

“It’s been such an honour to sing this 90’s classic song with the band who made it 25 years on from original release,” Busted’s James Bourne said in a statement. “To have them as special guests on tour with us in September will be really special too, we’re huge fans of Hanson!”

Hanson’s Taylor Hanson added, “It’s been a thrill to reimagine ‘MMMBop’ with Busted and to see how a song with such history comes to life in a new way. This is a true fusion of HANSON and Busted, we can’t wait to share it.”

MMMBop was written by Taylor, Zac and Isaac Hanson and features on their 1997 debut album, Middle Of Nowhere. At the time of the iconic music video, the brothers were just 16, 14 and 11 years old. The song was a major runaway success, landing at #1 in over 12 countries, including Australia.

Last November, Hanson returned to Australia for their Red Green Blue Tour. The shows were Hanson's first major tour since their 2019 String Theory album tour.

The tour marked 30 years of performing together as Hanson, which consists of the Hanson brothers as well as supporting members Dimitrius Collins and Andrew Perusi.

"When MMMBop first broke, and we had suddenly gone from literally a garage band to playing arenas, I remember just genuine excitement," Taylor Hanson recalled in a The Music interview. 

He continued to remark on the "genuine adrenaline that was rushed into your system as you're suddenly standing in front of 30,000 people in Australia or in a shopping mall in front of 10,000 screaming people.

"But even at that moment, I remember, having watched The Jackson Five, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, the rock'n'roll artists that were our heroes, thinking to myself 'this is something like what we've observed ourselves as fans, this must be similar to what those people must have felt.'"
