BTS Fans Slam Aus Comedian Alex Williamson After He Defends Boy Band TV Segment

Channel 9 and Adelaide comedian Alex Williamson have come under fire following an episode of the relaunched television series 20 To One.

The show counts down the "top 20" elements or events of a particular popular culture category and global phenomenon BTS came in at #18 last night as the show counted down global crazes.

The South Korean group were referred to as "the biggest boy band you've never heard of" before the segment went on to question their legitimacy as artists with a number of celebrities and comedians including Jimmy Carr, Tim Blackwell, Rob Mills, Mel Buttle and Perez Hilton making comments. 

A BTS fan account on Twitter shared a clip of the footage and said, "This is fucking disgusting and racists[sic] as fuck."

"Don’t ever include bts in your shitty show if y’all can’t even give them respect." 

Speaking to The Music this morning, a Nine spokesperson said, “As a light-hearted entertainment program, it is our belief that last night’s episode of 20 To One, which highlighted the ‘Greatest Global Crazes’, did not breach any broadcast regulations, and was intended to humorously highlight the popularity of the group. 

"We apologise to any who may have been offended by last night’s episode.”

Adelaide comedian Alex Williamson stepped in on Twitter last night to defend the segment. 

Fans of the group are now seeking retribution for what they are calling a "racist and xenophobic" response. 

"Shut the fuck up cunt it ain’t racist they just don’t give a fuck about boy bands who are designed solely to extract $ from the hip pocket of 14yo’s," Williamson wrote on Twitter.

Williamson has since posted a video this morning reiterating his Tweet.

20 To One drew only 317,000 viewers last night.
