Beginning Of The End? BTS Announce Break To Pursue Solo Projects

Global superstars and one of the most commercially successful bands of the past decade, BTS have announced that they are taking a break to focus on their solo projects.

The group spoke about their future in a video released this morning to celebrate the nine year anniversary of their debut record. They've recently released hits like Butter and Dynamite and last Friday dropped three disc album Proof.

In the video that announced that J-Hope has an album to come, following his solo headline performance at Lollapalooza next month. BTS also said that other members would then follow up with their own solo music and collaborations. 

The news broke 21 minutes into their annual Festa event on Youtube, with Suga stating, “We’re going into a hiatus now, we have to talk about the direction we’re taking."

“We’re each going to take some time to have fun and experience lots of things,” Jungkook told fans. 

“We promise we will return someday even more mature than we are now. I hope that you could give us your blessing.”

Fellow member RM elaborated, "“We did ‘Dynamite,’ ‘Butter,’ ‘Permission to Dance,’ ‘Life Goes On,’ and I realised the group has definitely changed. We have to accept that we’ve changed.

"For me, it was like the group BTS was within my grasp until ‘On’ and ‘Dynamite,’ but after ‘Butter’ and ‘Permission to Dance,’ I didn’t know what kind of group we were anymore.”

A representative of the band told Pitchfork, “To be clear, they are not on hiatus but will take time to explore some solo projects at this time and remain active in various different formats.”

Despite this, we've seen how other boy bands have enjoyed breaks or the politically incorrect term hiatus, with many never properly reforming afterwards.
