Britney Spears is reportedly working on her first album in eight years, and she might have enlisted singer and songwriter Charli XCX for the upcoming project.
According to sources at The Sun, Spears has reunited with her Britney Jean collaborator – Charli XCX, who wrote songs for the album, but none made the cut.
As well as releasing her own critically acclaimed music, Charli XCX has built a reputation as a prolific songwriter, penning Señorita, the 2019 smash hit for Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello, as well as tracks for Blondie, RAYE, Gwen Stefani, Selena Gomez and more.
“The Britney album is being kept top secret,” the source told The Sun about Spears’ tenth album. “Work has been going behind the scenes for quite a while to gather a series of killer songs to bring Britney back with a bang.”
The source continued, “Charli has a great track record when it comes to writing clever pop songs. She went into the studio earlier in the year to make some songs using Britney’s guidance of what she is after. She came up with a really strong track that is expected to make it on to the album, which Britney’s team hope will be out in 2024.”
New music from Britney Spears will follow the release of her debut memoir, The Woman In Me. As of November 2023, The Woman In Me had sold an estimated 2.4 million copies in print across the globe (per People) and became the second best-selling memoir of 2023, behind Prince Harry’s Spare.
