Australian outfit The Gametes are vowing to fight back against the Brisbane City Council after they censored the words "male impotency" in the band's music video.
As ABC reports, the indie punk-rock band entered their track, Star Surfer IX, into the council's QUBE Effect competition, only for a sign - with words 'male impotence' written on it - in the clip to be blurred out on the council's YouTube channel.
A statement from the council explained that the sign was blurred because "sexually explicit content, discriminatory comment and political comment" were not permitted in the competition.

The band have issued a slightly tongue-in-cheek response to The Music declaring that they object to the council's censorship and offering to donate half the prize money to a men's health charity if they win.

"Here at The Gametes, we pride ourselves on three things: efficiency, hygiene and philanthropy.
"That's why it was quite the shock to find the Brisbane City Council had censored our QUBE effect video, removed our 'Male Impotency' sign, and made our philanthropic efforts completely obsolete.
"We wanted to reach out to the community and give back to those who suffer in silence, as we ourselves have many, many close friends with male impotence.
"In the Brisbane City Council's official response, they fortified their stance on the matter, doubling down on the scourge of 'male impotence' being sexually explicit and offensive. You can almost feel the sharp pangs of inferiority resound across the city at this decision.
"With their lawyers stonewalling us from any further investigation, we feel we need to make a public decree: We call on the Brisbane City Council to OFFICIALLY APOLOGISE to all Australian men who suffer from erectile dysfunction, low testosterone, infertility and penis problems. Their health is important, not crude and explicit material.
"Furthermore, if The Gametes win the QUBE Effect competition, they are pleased to donate half the winnings, at a grand total of $1000, to Andrology Australia. To VOTE for The Gametes' video and FIGHT the injustice.
"Our video is not an act of disparagement, but an exploration of masculine fragility. The whole Gametes team want consumers to face the music- impotence exists, and it is rife within the community."
