Boy George Faces Bankruptcy

Boy George is facing bankruptcy, having amassed debts of $1.9 million. The Sun reports that the British pop icon has been in a High Court row with former Culture Club bandmate and ex-partner Jon Moss.

Liquidators have pulled George’s company assets of £324,682 ($618,000) to pay Moss back. The Karma Chameleon singer set up the company in April 2018 to handle his payments from television and music projects, including for his stint on the UK version of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! last year.

In another blow to George, the High Court has ordered him to pay Moss’s legal fees in addition to his own, leaving him no choice but to combat declaring bankruptcy. In April, Moss sued George for a $3.3 million damages claim, but the ex-couple settled the lawsuit outside of court.

The legal issues began after Moss was reportedly fired from Culture Club in September 2018, spending $1.8 million in legal fees against George.

Moss’s original case argued that he didn’t receive fair compensation in a tour contract, claiming that the band owed him £188,000 ($358,000) in lost income.

This September, Boy George is poised to bring Culture Club down under with special guests Berlin.

The Culture Club Greatest Hits Tour kicks off at Perth’s RAC Arena on 5 September, then heads to Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena on 8 September, Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on 9 September, Adelaide Entertainment Centre on 11 September and concludes at Brisbane Entertainment Centre on 14 September.

Boy George and the band said in a statement, “Hello you beautiful Australians! We’re so excited to announce that we’re going on our Greatest Hits tour this September.”

In a review of the band’s 2017 show at Perth Arena, The Music noted, “80s sentimentality may be so hot right now, but tonight all acts (Culture Club, Human League, Tom Bailey of the Thompson Twins and Hoseah Partsch) delivered lasting smiles.”
