What do Body Count have up their sleeves for their eighth album?
(Body Count by Jaz Meadows)
Body Count won their first Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance (for Bum-Rush) at the 2021 Grammy Awards, from their 2020 masterpiece, Carnivore.
Their seventh album saw the Ice-T-led band get heavier than ever and reunite with mega-producer Will Putney (of Fit For An Autopsy and END fame, producer for Every Time I Die’s Radical, in the supergroup Better Lovers), recruit the late, great Power Trip vocalist Riley Gale, with further features from Hatebreed’s Jamey Jasta and Evanescence’s Amy Lee. What do Body Count have up their sleeves for their eighth album?
Ice-T tweeted yesterday (1 May), “FYI... I just finished the final Vocals for the NEW Body Count album 'MERCILESS' this weekend.. Now the album just has to be mixed.. Stay Tuned.. Coming soon!”
Merciless is due for release later this year through Century Media Records.
In an interview with Darren Paltrowitz in October, Ice-T dropped hints about Merciless, per a transcript on Blabbermouth:
"Will Putney's producing again. We've had three consecutive great albums working with Will; he understands. I call him 'the Dr Dre of metal,' because he has the ability to produce different groups but make them sound like themselves, but just better.”

He continued, "I'm at a point now… When I first used to do albums, I would do, like, 20 songs and then try to pick 12. Now I'm very difficult to find the music, so by the time I pick 12, those are the 12 songs. I'm not doing a whole bunch of recording just to find that… I know what I'm doing.
“I'm like that photographer that knows how to just wait until the right moment to take the picture: 'Okay, that's one… two.' Versus the guy [who takes a bunch of pictures one after the other]. I don't need to do that.
"So the Merciless album is sounding pretty hard, though," Ice-T concluded. "We named the motherfucker Merciless." Check out the full interview here.
While we don’t know when the first single from Merciless will drop or when it’ll be finished mixing, but after the stunning post-hiatus Body Count albums – Manslaughter, Bloodlust, Carnivore, we can’t wait for whatever’s next.
