Blink-182 Reveal New Song ‘Can’t Go Back’

American pop-punk trio blink-182 kicked off their North American tour with a bang, playing rarities and even debuting a brand-new song, Can’t Go Back.

On Thursday (20 June) at the Kia Centre in Orlando, Florida, the band played a 26-song setlist that included Can’t Go Back and renditions of songs by their side bands, +44 and Box Car Racer.

For the first time with Tom DeLonge since 2013, the group brought out the self-titled album favourite, Obvious, as well as M+Ms for the first time since 2016 and their new song. For the first time ever during a blink-182 set, the band played partial performances of +44’s When Your Heart Stops Beating and Box Car Racer’s There Is.

As for Can’t Go Back, we’re dying for a studio recording. In the live clip, the song has that self-titled vibe with Mark Hoppus on lead vocals and a minor key, melancholy melody. Not straying too far from its core tune or its mid-tempo beat, Can’t Go Back feels like an emotional interlude.

Earlier this year, blink-182 returned to Australia for a 15-date arena and stadium tour in support of their latest album, One More Time.

One More Time was the band’s first album starring their most famous line-up – lead vocalist/bassist Mark Hoppus, drummer Travis Barker and singer/guitarist Tom DeLonge – in twelve years. The Australian tour also marked their first dates down under in eleven years.

The first of 15 Australian shows was a raging success, with The Music reviewer Michael Hollick declaring:

blink-182’s performance was a time capsule, providing both longtime and newer fans a chance to relive the days when baggy jeans, chains, and dyed spikes were the epitome of cool. The band may have grown older, but their music remains forever young.
