Pixies are apologising for their hit, Where Is My Mind, after a user on Reddit discovered that the song’s opening “Stop!” halted their alarm from going off on their Google Pixel phone.
“Sorry about that,” the band tweeted after Android Police posted an article about the strange occurrence, which the Pixies posted on social media. One Twitter user asked the band to write a song starting with "Call Dad!"
A Reddit user on the Google Pixel thread shared the now-viral post, “I finally figured out why my alarm kept turning off...” and followed it up with their experience.
The post reads, “For the past few months, I could not figure out why on random days, with seemingly no reason, sometimes my alarm would either not go off, or turn itself off very quickly. Maybe once every other week or so, I would wake up 30 minutes later on my backup alarm, with no indication as to why the first shut itself off.
“Well this morning, I woke up about 5 minutes before my alarm went off, and I have cracked the code.”
The Reddit user’s phone alarm is set to play a Spotify playlist, and one of the songs that appears is Where Is My Mind.

“The first line in the song is ‘Ooohhh STOP’, with the word ‘stop’ said very clearly” the Redditor continues. “My Pixel has been hearing that "stop" and turning the alarm off. Since it's a playlist on shuffle, it only comes up every once in a while, so it's not happening every morning.
“Glad that feature works...”
In 2021, the Pixel 6 arrived with the feature that by saying the word “Stop” or “Snooze,” your alarm could immediately turn itself off.
The Pixies finally returned to Australia in December 2022 after they were forced to cancel their remaining March 2020 tour dates due to Covid-19 public health orders. The shows celebrated Come On Pilgrim… It’s Surfer Rosa and Doggerel, with the iconic rock band taking 28 to 30 song setlists across the country.
