American singer-songwriter Billie Eilish has revealed the title and release date for her highly anticipated third album, following the success of her 2021 LP Happier Than Ever.
Her third album, Hit Me Hard And Soft, will be released on Friday, 17 May, in just six weeks. In addition to announcing the album title and release date, Eilish has excited casual music listeners about the full album experience by revealing that she won’t be releasing any singles in the lead-up to the album’s release.
“Hit Me Hard And Soft my third album comes out May 17th ahhh,” Eilish wrote on Instagram (in all caps and with more characters) this morning (9 April). “So crazy to be writing this right now I’m nervy and excited… not doing singles I wanna give it to you all at once”.
She added, “[Her brother] Finneas and I truly could not be more proud of this album and we absolutely can’t wait for you to hear it. Love you love you love you.”
Eilish also shared the album art for Hit Me Hard And Soft, which finds her falling through a door underwater, shot by underwater photographer William Drumm. You can check out her post below.
The official album announcement follows a short teaser video Eilish posted on social media yesterday and a series of Instagram Stories, the latest in which she said, “I’m telling you something tomorrow”. To further the artist and fan connection, Eilish made all her followers “Close Friends” on Instagram while sharing the teasers.

Hit Me Hard And Soft is available to pre-order and pre-save now.
Eilish is sticking to her sustainability ethics and only releasing two variants of the album on her Australian merch store: 100% recycled black vinyl and 100% recycled compound blue eco-mix vinyl. The records will be shipped in 100% recycled boxes, and the sleeves will be 100% recycled and reusable.
You can pre-order/pre-save the album here.
In other Billie Eilish news, the singer recently made her stance known on artists releasing tons of vinyl variants (including herself with her Happier Than Ever release), calling out the practice for “how wasteful it is”.
When followers claimed that she was targeting Taylor Swift in her comments around “some of the biggest artists in the world making fucking 40 different vinyl packages that have a different unique thing just to get you to keep buying more,” she rectified the drama by stating on her Instagram Stories:
“I wasn’t singling anyone out. These are industry-wide systemic issues. When it comes to variants, so many artists release them—including ME! which I clearly state in the article.
“The climate crisis is now, and it's about all of us being part of the problem and trying to do better”.
