Brit Award winner and Mercury Prize nominee Beth Orton has announced her first Australian tour dates in six years, returning to Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane this November.
Starting her Australian tour at the Melbourne Recital Centre on Wednesday, 22 November, the Stolen Car musician heads to Sydney’s City Recital Hall on Friday, 24 November, and The Tivoli in Brisbane on Sunday, 26 November. Tickets go on sale on Monday, 21 August, at 11 am AEST, with the Frontier Touring pre-sale beginning on Friday, 18 August, also at 11 am AEST.
Orton’s upcoming tour dates arrive in support of her latest album, 2022’s Weather Alive, released via Partisan/Liberator Records.
Orton last returned to Australia in 2017, partaking in an epic performance at Vivid LIVE. The UK singer kicked off her 2017 dates with a stop at North Perth’s Rosemount Hotel, in which The Music reviewer Christopher James remarked about her performance: “Orton's voice rendered a magnetic effect across the entire room; her apparent vulnerabilities and occasional quirkiness only making her all the more endearing.”
Continuing to praise her expressive vocals, James declared that no singer expresses themselves as Orton does. Bringing up a comparison to Portishead vocalist Beth Gibbons, James concluded, “No one does like Orton can. Neither does any other voice surge and diminish in volume in quite the same way as hers did tonight.”
In 2005, Orton performed in Sydney as part of a Leonard Cohen tribute concert, Came So Far For Beauty. “I was stepping on stage with Nick Cave and Emmylou Harris, and the entire atmosphere was on the stage,” Orton told The Music in a May 2017 interview.

“It was extraordinary to be playing such a beautiful venue, but there was such a charged feeling among the performers. That's my most strong memory of being in Australia.”
