A who's who of Sydney music will come together to play indie legend Beck's new album, with all proceeds going towards the Sydney Story Factory.
Some of Sydney's best musicians will come together for one night only to perform a unique arrangement of Beck's new album, Beck Hansen's Song Reader. The gig will take place at The Standard on Wednesday 19 December.
In a bold move, Beck has released this latest record not as a studio album but as a collection of sheet music, inviting fans and musicians to interpret the material as they see fit. Accordingly, The Sydney Story Factory has pulled together an all-star cast to bring Beck's new material to life, featuring Josh Pyke, Jonathan Boulet, Dappled Cities, Caitlin Park, Richard In Your Mind, Aidan Roberts (Belles Will Ring), Thomas Rawle (Papa vs Pretty) and Elana Stone. The collaborative production has been overseen by Brian Campeau, who has recently staged a tribute to Beck's 2002 magnum opus Sea Change.
All money made on the night will go towards the Sydney Story Factory, a new non-profit writing centre in Redfern that is dedicated to helping marginalised young people through one-on-one tutoring. As a celebration of both music and writing, the night will also boast exclusive new work from acclaimed local wordsmiths and performers, with the full lineup of performances, readings and DJs to be announced in coming weeks.
