"We are offering a safe space for members of the LGBTI community to enjoy a show and 100% belong."
Country music legend Beccy Cole, local comedy maestro Joel Creasey and more were among those honoured at the 2018 Australian LGBTI Awards last night.
This year’s event was the result of more than 11,000 nominations across 16 categories, with all the winners unveiled at The Star at an event hosted by SBS presenter Patrick Abboud.
“When we bring the show to regional towns and even the most remote parts of the country, we are offering a safe space for members of the LGBTI community to enjoy a show and 100% belong,” Cole said.
“This award is for you, you are always welcome. Being yourself encourages others to do the same.”

“These past months, it’s been amazing to finally starting to see some traction towards equality, opportunity and fair treatment for all,” Australian LGBTI Awards Director Silke Bader said.
“Such great strides would be impossible without their tireless contributions.”
