Bastille Team Up With Hans Zimmer For New Version Of 'Pompeii'

Bastille are celebrating the tenth anniversary of their debut album, Bad Blood, and what better way to honour your first LP than teaming up with legendary composer Hans Zimmer for a collaboration?

Yesterday, the UK band unveiled the new version of their hit single, Pompeii, starring Zimmer. Pompeii MMXXIII came about when Bastille vocalist Dan Smith was working alongside the Gladiator composer in the studio.

Bad Blood debuted at #10 in Australia and has since been certified Gold. Pompeii, the first song and fourth single from the album, debuted at #4 in Australia and has been certified a whopping nine times Platinum.

“Having the opportunity to work with the living legend that is Hans Zimmer and his brilliant team has been an absolute dream,” Smith commented about the epic new rendition of one of the band’s most well-known songs, per NME. “Working with them on this new version of ‘Pompeii’ has been incredible and has put the biggest smiles on our faces throughout the whole wonderfully surreal experience.”

Zimmer added, per U Discover Music, “It’s been proven time and time again that a beautiful, crafted song by a great band can have many lives and ‘Pompeii’ is a shining example of this.

“Working hand in hand with Bastille and my team at Bleeding Fingers has been an exhilarating experience and an honour to be part of this remarkable journey. I’m so excited to share this rendition with you all!”

In June, Bastille announced the release of Bad Blood X, an LP honouring their debut album's tenth anniversary. Bad Blood X was released in July – you can listen to the record here.

Also in June, Zimmer proposed to his girlfriend, film producer Dina De Luca, while on stage at London’s O2 Arena. Inviting De Luca on stage, he said, “Why did I bring you up here? I was going to ask you something really important.”

He joked, “Did you lock the back door? Is the milk in the fridge? Do we have any sorbet in the freezer?” Before asking the all-important question, “Will you marry me?” 

De Luca said yes, the pair hugged, and the entire O2 Arena burst into ecstatic applause.
