Fans of ‘90s boybands, including Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, New Kids On The Block, and more, will be rewarded for their devotion, with a Paramount+ documentary about the harmonising groups of the era reportedly on the way.

According to a new Variety report, the documentary – currently untitled – will explore the period of prominence all these acts experienced in their day (the 90s and 2000s) while examining their place in pop culture.

The documentary, which will include interviews with the artists and archival concert and music video footage, has director Tamra Davis attached to the project, who fits in perfectly with the music video directing credit of Hanson’s MMMBop. Justin Timberlake and prolific band manager Johnny Wright also serve as co-producers.

Wright said about the documentary (per The Wrap), “The Nineties boy band era was an extraordinary chapter in music where harmonies and beats came together. To this day, the boy bands continue to inspire, uplift and unite – reminding us of a great time that will forever hold a special place in our hearts.”

In July, a new glam-metal-inspired documentary series, I Wanna Rock: The ‘80s Metal Dream, landed on Paramount+. “Hairspray. Spandex. Leather pants. I Wanna Rock: The ’80s Metal Dream follows five young dreamers chasing stardom in the cutthroat world of 80s metal,” a press release noted. “Some will succeed, some will fail, but each will make you see an entirely new side of the metal genre.”

I Wanna Rock was created in partnership with MTV Entertainment Studios and Gunpowder & Sky – the latter of which is involved with the unnamed boyband documentary – and directed and produced by Tyler Measom (I Want My MTV, 2019).

Last week, *NSYNC released their first song in over 20 years entitled Better Place, which will feature on the soundtrack for the upcoming movie Trolls Band Together.

Before the single’s announcement last month, speculation over a reunion began when posters were spotted across the US advertising the Trolls movie and featuring the *NSYNC logo. Those posters also included a QR code, taking fans to the website takeyoutoabetterplace.com, which featured a catchy, whistled snippet to Better Place.

*NSYNC also reunited on stage for the first time in ten years at September’s MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), and while they didn’t perform at the awards show, they did present Taylor Swift with the Best Pop Award for Anti-Hero.

The fivesome have also been sharing regular updates on Instagram, with JT posting a heartfelt video of the group back in the studio again on Instagram on the day of the track’s announcement.
