The 2024 Eurovision Song Contest is officially underway, with the first semi-final being held in Malmö, Sweden last night (May 7). Unfortunately, though, our hopes of seeing Australia take home the gold have already been dashed.
Electric Fields represented Australia for the 68th edition of the global song competition, doing us proud nonetheless with their incredible song One Milkali (One Blood). They performed the song live for yesterday’s first semi-final, but sadly they did not make the cut for round two.
Australia was one of five countries to be knocked from the ranking, alongside Poland, Iceland, Moldova and Azerbaijan. The second semi-final will be held in Sweden tomorrow (May 9) followed by the final this Saturday (May 11).
Electric Fields themselves aren’t letting the result get their spirits down. Speaking backstage at Malmö Arena, singer Zaachariaha Fielding said of their experience (as transcribed by Mumbrella): “We did a killer performance. We felt like rockstars. That audience, they were just giving. It’s going to be a memory that will be embedded with us for the rest of our lives.”
Meanwhile, keyboardist Michael Ross said they entered the fray for Eurovision 2024 “with open hearts”, and acknowledged that the whole production has been a “major undertaking for a lot of people”.
For now, the duo have their sights set on bigger things. Ross added to his statement yesterday: “I would just say, keep an eye on our story,” Ross said, “because even though Eurovision is a major, major deal [and] a major moment, it’s actually not the best of what we’ve got coming. Keep your eye out.”

Electric Fields were announced to represent Australia at Eurovision 2024 back in March. At the time, they said of their inclusion: “We are buzzed with euphoria at our chance to share this music with the world. Our music comes from the deepest place in both of us, and Eurovision is the most exciting opportunity to bring together our cultures and share the joy of our global connection.”
