Arcade Fire Score Highest Debut On Aus Charts This Week

US indie rock mainstays Arcade Fire have soared into the ARIA Albums Chart to claim this week’s highest debut with their new album, Everything Now.

The band’s highly anticipated fifth album debuted at #2, just shy of the top prize which UK favourite Ed Sheeran holds onto with ÷ (Divide).

“Arcade Fire blast out an album of infectious pop songs with such irresistible uplift that it is impossible not to take flight and soar sky-high on these feel-good vibes,” said The Music’s Guido Farnell of Arcade Fire’s new album.

Last week’s #1, Lana Del Rey’s Lust For Life, was bumped out of the top five to make way for Dan Sultan's third LP, Killer, at #5, and the latest The Voice winner Judah Kelly's debut, Count On Me, which landed at #3.

Rock heavyweight Alice Cooper's Paranormal rounds out the top five, coming in at #4.

Passenger's The Boy Who Cried Wolf and the Carole King compilation both cracked the top ten, as predicted by mid-week figures, coming in at #6 and #8 respectively, while local legends The Murlocs swoop in with Old Locomotive for a #15 debut.

Other notable debuts on this week’s Albums Chart come from O'Shea’s 61-615 (#16), Shane Nicholson’s Love And Blood  (#28) and Make Them Suffer's Worlds Apart (#29).

Over on the Singles Chart, Kesha's latest track, Praying, featuring Sydney's All Our Exes Live In Texas, have moved up to #7.
