“The longest we’ve ever spent writing, uninterrupted, probably ever."
Arcade Fire have today announced their first record in five years, We.
The announcement follows a week of teasing by the band, posting on their social media 'WE missed you' as well as performing two intimate pop-up shows in New Orleans this week in support of Plus1's Ukraine Relief Fund.
We is the result of “the longest we’ve ever spent writing, uninterrupted, probably ever" (per the band’s Win Butler), into a concise, 40-minute epic record.
The album acts as a cathartic journey, one that begins in darkness into light over the course of seven songs divided into two sides.
Produced by Radiohead and Beck collaborator Nigel Godrich, the body of work will be released on May 6.
The announcement comes alongside the release of their newest single The Lightning I, II, which has landed with an accompanying music video directed by Emily Kai Bock and features band members Win Butler, Regine Chassagne, Tim Kingsbury and Jeremy Gara.
