Being a successful artist in 2024 means a lot more than just making and performing good music – for starters, you need to have an ironclad social media presence, churning out as much content as physically possible to keep your audience (and of course, the all-dreaded algorithm) engaged.

Amy Shark has joined the ever-growing cohort of artists lamenting this nonstop grind, sharing a video on TikTok (yes, we understand the irony) to make her feelings on the matter clear. It comes by way of a playful grilling of someone working at her label who implored her to keep active on... Well, just about every platform you could imagine.

“I don’t know if it’s worth being a musician right now,” she quipped. “It’s really not worth it. Like, I’m gonna exaggerate this, because she’s actually the loveliest girl in the whole world – from my label – but this is what I feel like I’ve heard this week... I love you, by the way – if she hears this – but... ‘Hey Amy, smashing it! So um, yeah, I reckon if you go live on Instagram, and then what you should do is, we should post some Instagram Reels, and then also some TikTok content would be good – we haven’t gone live on TikTok for a while, so we should probably do that...

“‘And maybe get some things up on Facebook! And some Facebook Reels as well. And while you’re doing that, we haven’t done any YouTube Shorts in a while, so if you could just get some YouTube Shorts up, that would be great. Keep going with the Facebook fan groups, as well – like, the fan page is doing really well. And also the Instagram Broadcast. While you’re doing that, if you could just be a little more present on LinkedIn and Tinder and Grindr and realestate.com, that should cover it.’ I’m gonna jump.”

The video comes as Shark gears up to release her third studio album, Sunday Sadness, on August 16 through Sony. She announced the record just last week, saying in a statement: “I specifically wrote this album on Sundays, constantly daydreaming about the happiest moments and the worst, remembering the best people while still getting over others. I am different on Sundays. I am not sure why, but I bet you are, too.”

Thus far, Shark has previewed the new record with three singles: Can I Shower At Yours arrived first last June, followed by Beautiful Eyes back in January, and Loving Me Lover alongside the album’s announcement.
