Amy Shark has cheekily opened up about possible new career prospects, revealing in a recent interview that she’s getting into acting.
Earlier this month, Amy Shark appeared on Smallzy’s Surgery, the celebrity small talk show via Nova Podcasts and discussed her forthcoming album, Sunday Sadness, and the shows in support of it, the Sadness Tour.
Asking the I Said Hi if she’s relaxing now that the album is finished and the tour is still a few months away, Shark shared that she’s been doing “heaps of stuff,” including “a bit of acting.”
Immediately curious, Smallzy quizzed Shark about what she’s acting in (“Are we talking, like, Home And Away, or are we talking like, Academy Award winner?”), Shark laughed and said she couldn’t say anything, but it’s a step in the direction of something she’s really interested in.
“I like pushing myself and scaring myself,” she continued. “I like the whole idea of scaring yourself and just saying yes and being like… when I said yes to [Australian] Idol, I was like, ‘Well, holy shit, I don't know how I'm gonna do live TV. I've never been a judge.’ I kind of get off on the rush of figuring it out and, like, why not?”
Adding that “there’s a lot more coin in acting than music,” Shark and Smallzy discussed the pitfalls of being a successful actor: having to talk too much in Ubers.

Over the weekend, Amy Shark revealed that she’s officially locked in collaborations with all three members of blink-182, completing her mission by announcing a forthcoming track with Tom DeLonge.
First, she linked up with Mark Hoppus on Psycho in June 2018, then Travis Barker on C’Mon in October 2020, and now Tom DeLonge will feature on My Only Friend, which will drop this Friday (26 July).
Earlier this year, Shark appeared as a judge for the second season of the rebooted Australian Idol, saying it’s a “pleasure” to work alongside Marcia Hines.
“We talk about certain venues that we’ve both played at, like in regional Australia, and we get along so well,” Shark told The Music. “But it took me a minute because even seeing her sit next to me was just… I had a moment like, ‘How did I get here? Who am I? How am I next to Marcia Hines on Australian Idol as a judge?’ It's so crazy to me, but she is a legend.”
Amy Shark’s Sadness Tour will take place throughout October and November. You can find more details about the tour here before the new album is released next month (Friday, 16 August).
