Adele has talked about her hatred of musicals in a new interview with James Corden on the last week of his Late Late Show.
While the pair were participating in the popular segment, Carpool Karaoke, Corden inquired about whether his good friend would try to go for EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award) status, with the most conventional path for an artist landing the Tony to succeed in a musical.
Adele won her first Emmy Award for the broadcast of her One Night Only special last year, she’s won an Oscar for Best Original Song for her James Bond tune, Skyfall, and 16 Grammy Awards. What’s one more to add to the shelf?
"I really don't think that that is ever gonna happen," Adele responded to Corden’s question about trying to achieve a Tony Award. "I would never write a musical or anything like that because I fucking hate musicals. I fucking hate musicals. I don't think I've ever said how much I fucking hate musicals."
She clarified that she does “respect” the art form of musicals and continued, "Absolutely. I just don't need to hear everything in fucking song all the time. I also think the EGO suits me better." Watch Adele’s latest Carpool Karaoke – where she takes the wheel, despite being a bad driver – below.
Only 18 people have won the full collection of Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tonys including John Legend, Whoopi Goldberg, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Jennifer Hudson, and Viola Davis.

In 2021, Adele led the charge behind a massive change in streaming services after requesting that Spotify remove the “shuffle” button from album pages by default, so that fans can listen to albums as artists intended.
According to Variety, a spokesperson for the streaming giant said: “As Adele mentioned, we are excited to share that we have begun rolling out a new Premium feature that has been long requested by both users and artists to make ‘play’ the default button on all albums.
“For those users still wishing to shuffle an album, they can go to the Now Playing View and select the ‘shuffle’ toggle. As always, we will continue to iterate our products and features to create the best experiences for both artists and their fans.”
In response to the victory, Adele tweeted, “This was the only request I had in our ever changing industry! We don’t create albums with so much care and thought into our track listing for no reason. Our art tells a story and our stories should be listened to as we intended. Thank you Spotify for listening.”
