Popular ‘90s Aussie Singers To Compete In 'Eurovision: Australia Decides'

The final three acts to compete in Eurovision: Australia Decides have today been announced as Ella Hooper, Tania Doko and Alfie Arcuri. 

Hooper is best known as the frontwoman for '90s rock group Killing Heidi (Weir, Mascara), as well for her work as a solo artist and presenter, while Doko is known for her work with duo Bachelor Girl (Buses & Trains), who released new music for the first time in over a decade last year. Arcuri took out the title for The Voice season five in 2016.

“It’s very exciting to be involved in anything that is the first of its kind, and in recent years I have become more and more fascinated with Eurovision, so it’s perfect timing!" shares Hooper. "I’m hoping to bring a bit of traditional rock ‘n’ roll energy to a bombastic performance of a meaningful pop song."

“This is one of those unplanned, didn’t-see-this-coming little chapter in my career I’m embracing with a sense of adventure and excitement," adds Doko. "Then, as a songwriter performing a song I co-wrote, there’s the icing on the cake right there!”

The three acts join previously announced contestants, who all compete to represent Australia at Eurovision, including Courtney Act, Aydan, Leaa Nanos, Mark Vincent, Sheppard, Kate Miller-Heidke and Electric Fields.

The event will take place on the Gold Coast from 8-9 February and broadcast nationally on SBS with the winner to represent Australia at the global singing contest in May in Israel.
