DistroDirect have announced their official showcase of Australian artists for the 2024 edition of South By Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas.
Officially dubbed DistroDirect Selects, the showcase was directly commissioned by the SXSW programming team, and highlights some of the most promising up-and-coming artists from Down Under.
In a press release, the company said their flagship gig is “dedicated to spotlighting the diverse and talented pool of artists within the DistroDirect ecosystem, while celebrating the vibrant community of music businesses that leverage DistroDirect's premium micro-distribution model to enhance their portfolios and expand their artist networks on a global scale”.
Co-presented by parent company GYROstream – alongside Acts Music Group and Soul Has No Tempo as partners – the event will feature sets from Miss Kaninna (a recent cover star on TheMusic.com.au), Keenan Te, Orion, William Singe, Yb. and breathe.
In a formal statement, Viv Melish – co-founder and CMO of DistroDirect and GYROstream – pointed out the significance of SXSW for up-and-coming artists, saying the annual conference and festival “provides artists with the opportunity to showcase their craft on a massive level”.
She added that her company “is so pleased to be able to work with SXSW and a number of our partners to bring this opportunity to such a talented and diverse group of musicians.”

The sentiment was shared by CEO Andy Irvine, who said in a quote shared with TheMusic.com.au that he’s “so proud to say most of the artists that have been chosen in consultation with the SXSW programming team are Australian.”
He continued: “At GYROstream we are well on the way to becoming a leading net exporter of recorded music from this country and the streaming success we've seen so far from these artists will only increase as we strive to create more of these types of opportunities for our partners."
