With just twelve days to go until triple j’s J Award winners are revealed, the national youth broadcaster has announced the impressive nominees who all showcase just how bloody good Australian music has been this year.
Only two artists appear in two categories – G Flip and Genesis Owusu, both nominated for the Australian Album of the Year and Australian Live Act of the Year, the latter of which is a brand-new category.
Elsewhere, the nominees show off the diversity we know and love in Australian music, from pop (Gretta Ray, Kylie Minogue, Troye Sivan), rap and hip-hop (Genesis Owusu, 3%, Miss Kaninna) to metal (Polaris).
The Australian Album of the Year nominees make up the most stacked category, starting with Angie McMahon’s Light, Dark, Light Again, and starring G Flip and Genesis Owusu with their respective albums, DRUMMER and STRUGGLER, Gretta Ray with Positive Spin, Holy Holy’s Cellophane, Lastlings’ Perfect World, Matt Corby’s Everything’s Fine, Polaris’ Fatalism, Teen Jesus & The Jean Teasers’ I Love You, and Troye Sivan’s Something To Give Each Other.
