Australian music icon and adult entertainer Donny Benét looks to be lining up a new venture: entering the record label business.
Sharing a new poster designed by Melbourne-based designer Steve Gavan, Benét is the subject of “Donnyland Records” – an image of a chef with a moustache holding a hot record instead of a pizza.
The photo is captioned, “For your listening pleasure”, with a tease: “Coming soon… Donnyland Records”. It’s as straightforward as a teaser preceding an announcement gets, with the Konichiwa singer looking to officially dish the details on Donnyland Records soon. You can check out the photo below.
As Benét confirmed with The Music, he is indeed preparing to launch his own label, as well as announce forthcoming new music. Keep your eyes peeled for more news.
Donny Benét released his fifth album, Mr Experience, in May 2020, with the release reaching #26 on the ARIA Albums Chart. Benét did well in other areas, too, with his 2017 track Konichiwa inspiring Canadian superstar The Weeknd – the song featured on The Weeknd’s Handpicked Playlist, which showcased 24 songs that inspired his blockbuster record After Hours.
Earlier this year, Benét took home the honour of Best Independent Jazz Album or EP at the Australian Independent Record Awards (AIR) for his recent EP, Le Piano.

“Benét’s modest vocals know their limits, but he strategically tailors his songs to suit his voice,” The Music reviewer Guido Farnell wrote about Benét’s album, Mr Experience. “Mr Experience offers feelgood respite from these strange and uncertain times.”
On watching Benét perform at Sydney’s Factory Theatre in late 2018, The Music’s Hannah Story wrote, “Every song is a ‘come hither’ song, designed to seduce while being deeply funny and self-aware. Benet gave the crowd a sneaky grin and rhythmic shrug every time he was about to knock out another groovy bass solo. He was able to totally inhabit the spotlight, panting and flirting with the audience, thanks to the accomplished backing of his super impressive band.”
