Boy & Bear's 'Harlequin Dream' Album Goes Triple-Platinum

Midway through their national tour to celebrate its tenth anniversary, Boy & Bear have learned that their beloved second album, Harlequin Dream, has been certified triple-Platinum in Australia.

The Sydney (Eora) indie-folk band shared the news on Facebook on Saturday, sharing their excitement and gratitude with fans: “We don’t really know what to say other than THANK YOU!! Thank you for supporting us and this album,” they wrote. “We are beyond grateful that we get to still do this [ten] years later.”

In addition to the epic career milestone, Boy & Bear confirmed that Southern Sun, the opening track on and lead single for Harlequin Dream, has finally been certified Platinum in New Zealand (it’s already triple-Platinum here).

The news arrived hours ahead of Boy & Bear’s first Perth (Boorloo) show in support of Harlequin Dream’s tenth anniversary – they’ll perform again at the Astor Theatre tonight (May 30) and tomorrow (May 31), before taking to The Tivoli in Brisbane (Meanjin) for celebratory gigs on Friday August 16, Saturday 17 and Sunday 18; head here to grab one of the few remaining tickets. Thus far, the band have already honoured the anniversary with two shows each in Melbourne (Naarm) and Sydney.

Harlequin Dream was initially released in August of 2013 and also featured the smaller hit Three Headed Woman. In a review for TheMusic.com.au, Pete Laurie wrote of it: “In a post-Mumford & Sons world, quiet, introspective folk music can be found lying under every vintage waistcoat and tin of moustache wax. But it takes more than just whacking in a banjo or mandolin to make this style work. It takes a kind of non-pretentious sincerity that Boy & Bear deliver in spades. 

“Harlequin Dream perfectly combines the jaunty swagger of neo-folk with real emotion and a touch of bittersweetness for an album of real substance.”
